Summary
In short, you'll set your system to automatically forward (i.e. an auto-responder) emails back to the MailBox Tools system. Using this powerful method, you can monitor one or more Exchange mailbox servers ensuring your entire organization's email system is running smoothly.
These instructions show you how to set up a monitoring for one Exchange mailbox. Just repeat the steps for each mailbox server you have using a different email address on your end (for example, mailtest01@yourcompany.com, mailtest02@yourcompany.com, etc.).
There are several ways you can do this. We recommend the following method, as we've had excellent results with it.
Step 1. Check if your email server allows automatic forward.

Step 2. If your server allows automatic forward go to step 3. Otherwise, configure a new domain for mailboxtools.com that allows automatic forward.
Detailed Instructions
Step 3. Create a new Active Directory user and mailbox on each Exchange mailbox server you want to monitor on your system to receive emails from MailBox Tools (you can use an existing mailbox if needed, but we recommend a dedicated one). This is the email address MailBox Tools will send to.
Step 4. Open each mailbox you want to monitor in Outlook, and create a SERVER-SIDE rule as follows (start by clicking Tools | Rules and Alerts):
This rule says: "If email is from mailtest@mailboxtools.com, then forward it to mailtest@mailboxtools.com and delete it."
When creating this rule, just type the email address as shown below, mailtest@mailboxtools.com does *not* have to be in your Global Address List.
That's it on your end. Now go to the MailBox Tools website and configure an Email Down ALERT for each mailbox you want to monitor.
